Delete your PIC account
How to delete your account
Deleting your account is permanent and cannot be undone. PIC does not offer reactivation or individual account recovery. Data may nevertheless remain temporarily recoverable within the database provider’s point-in-time recovery window, as described below.
- Open PIC and go to Settings.
- Tap "Delete account".
- Confirm your password.
- Type the confirmation word shown on screen, then tap "Delete my account".
What is deleted
When you confirm, your identity and stored sign-in records are deleted immediately, and your profile and polls stop appearing in PIC. Photos and the remaining account-related data listed below are removed by a background sweep that continues after you are signed out.
- your profile - username, display name, email address and date of birth
- your password and stored sign-in records
- the question, option labels and photos from every poll you created; each poll stops appearing in PIC and only a content-free metrics record remains
- who you follow, who follows you, and any pending follow requests
- your notifications, notification preferences and push registrations
- your Viewed history list and your pins
- reports concerning polls you created
What is kept, and why
A limited set of records is retained for aggregate product metrics, poll integrity, safety, legal, audit and email-delivery reasons. Some references are replaced or cleared, some safety and audit records may keep an opaque reference that no longer resolves to a profile, and email-suppression records keep the address needed to prevent further messages.
The content-free poll records, votes, interaction events and account-creation record have no scheduled deletion date. They are kept only for as long as needed to preserve reconcilable historical counts of accounts, polls, votes and activity. The replacement reference cannot be used to access or restore your deleted account.
For a short period after deletion, data may remain recoverable within our database provider’s point-in-time recovery window. It is removed as that window rolls forward.
Your username is temporarily reserved so nobody can immediately register it and be mistaken for you.
- A minimal record of when your account was created is stored under a fresh replacement reference. It contains the creation time and no other account attribute or deletion date.
- A content-free record of each poll you created retains its type, creation time, expiry window and time, status, and app-session link. Its author becomes the replacement reference. Votes cast on it stay recorded, but the poll and its votes are never shown.
- Your view, skip and share events stay recorded with their client-reported time and app session, but your account reference becomes the replacement reference. Other people’s events on your polls keep their own references.
- Votes you cast on other people’s polls stay counted so their results do not change, and app-session records remain for their 13-month retention period. Your account reference on both becomes the replacement reference.
- Some reports and automated image-screening evidence are retained to support moderation and safety controls. Account references on retained reports and image-screening records are re-keyed. An image-screening record’s separate link to a deleted poll may be cleared.
- Moderation action logs, suspension records and the deletion receipt may retain the original opaque account reference for security, legal or audit purposes. That reference no longer resolves to an account or profile.
- If messages to your email address bounced, or you marked them as spam, the address remains readable in our email-suppression list so we do not contact it again.
